Blue Orchid Asbury Park is a patient-centered care facility built on respect for diversity and self-awareness. Our philosophy is to spend quality, one-on-one time with each patient to fully understand the medical needs of the individual. Strong healthy bodies start with a solid partnership between provider and patient. We follow best practices according to guidelines and we are focused on the medical care needs of our community for patients age 16 and older.


Dr. Kafilat Adewunmi, DO, MBA Provider

Dr. Kafilat Adewunmi is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. She received her medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. She further gained practical experience by completing a residency in family medicine at Rowan University.

A qualified family physician, Dr. Adewunmi looks after the clients of Blue Orchid Asbury Park as well as people of Union, NJ and is available for examinations and consultations at VAMA Medical Health Center. She manages a host of medical concerns, including ear infections, warts, sinus problems, sore throat, and urinary tract infections.

Dr. Adewunmi is bilingual in English and Spanish, which makes her accessible to patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds. She is an active member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Medical Association.


Robert C. Cruz, FACHE Managing Partner

Robert Cruz is an experienced healthcare executive specializing in the areas of Clinical Laboratory and Hospital administration. He has extensive and many years of experience in clinical operations management, customer service, regulatory compliance, and finance. He directed a number of hospital clinical laboratories in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

He earned his graduate degree in Health Administration from The Johns Hopkins University, undergraduate degrees in Medical Technology and Management Engineering from York College of Pennsylvania and Centro Escolar University.

He is certified Clinical Lab Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

His passion lately is to improve population health through greater partnership between patients and providers by improving communication and treatment compliance.


Michelle Ely Office Coordinator - Medical Assistant

With a management background in the banking industry, Michelle returned to school to follow a dream. She is now certified in Medical Assisting (top of her class). After a successful internship she was hired at Monmouth Cardiology. Other work experience include: general surgeon’s office and a plastic surgery practice. Being the Medical Assistant and Office Coordinator at Blue Orchid Asbury Park is the culmination of all her hard work.

Josh Lane Medical Director

Bernard J Lane M.D. is a dedicated, compassionate physician, who is currently a practicing cardiac anesthesiologist. Dr. Lane provides anesthesia for a wide range of surgeries across diverse patient populations. As an anesthesiologist, he possesses the medical expertise to understand patient encounters of virtually every variety and has an unyielding devotion to the highest quality medical care. Coupled with his broad and comprehensive experience, Dr. Lane’s singular focus is always on each individual patient's overall health and wellbeing.  

Dr. Lane graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree focusing in molecular and cellular biology. Following his undergraduate education, he attended medical school at the University of Louisville, where he received his medical degree. From there, he completed his internship, residency, and cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship within the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Lane maintains board certifications in anesthesia and perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, as well as memberships in the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Medical Association.

Over the past few years, Dr. Lane has worked at various institutions in New York and New Jersey and feels fortunate to have joined the close-knit Jersey Shore and Asbury Park communities.  


Barbara Locke, Nurse Practitioner Provider

Barbara Locke received her master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in the specialty area of family practice. She’s focused on the adult community working alongside internal medicine physicians and family nurse practitioners.

Through her clinical training and collaboration with amazing providers, Barbara has truly developed a passion for guideline driven, patient-centered care. Once given the wonderful advice of “Always put the patient first”, she developed skills to communicate and partner with each patient as an individual – on an individual basis. She recognizes each person for their individuality and provides care with the understanding of this individuality.

“My care is always based on guidelines and best standard of care with the consideration of the patient’s lifestyle, culture, and personal goals.”
